Student activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim who lowered a flag depicting Umno president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak last month has been suspended for three semesters by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris UPSI.
A tweet from Solidariti Mahasiswa stated that the university handed down the sentence to the 23-year-old after a one-hour disciplinary hearing.
On December 17th Adam Adli who was participating in a street protest against the Universities and University Colleges Act UUCA lowered the flag located at the PWTC and raised a flag of his association Solidariti Mahasiswa instead.
He later said he would not apologise and was prepared to face any repercussions.
Solidariti Mahasiswa is planning to take the matter to the court.
Adam Adli was also among 17 students who were arrested during a sit-in outside UPSI in Tanjung Malim on New Year's Eve.
The group was demanding for academic freedom and protesting against the UUCA.
They had also wanted UPSI to drop charges against Adam Adli over the flag lowering incident.
